Because the design of the football lends itself to bounce awkwardly is unpredictable, most coaches would say, just land on the ball...but the ball it like Gold at this point in time and is irresistable. Putting down the hands is how to do it if you are going to grab the ball and run with it. It is a risk though. Landing on the ball is almost a sure thing. Putting down hands is very risky.
