Retired GPD cop, Mark Wilson, a hero

Below is a Press Release from the Greenwich Police on an arrest stemming from a serious accident in July.  The “back-story” as told by GPD Public Information Officer Lt. Kraig Gray, is quite interesting.  It highlights the life-saving heroism of retired GPD officer Mark Wilson, who now serves our Greenwich as a police dispatcher.  Lt, Gray says:

An interesting note about this accident:

  • On the night of the accident the first person on scene just seconds after it occurred was Mark Wilson.
  • Mark Wilson had just completed a shift as a Lead Dispatcher at the Greenwich Police Department.
  • Mark Wilson is a retired GPD Officer with 27 years of experience.
  • The consensus among the medical professionals is Mark’s quick action and medical care was a significant factor in her survival

On July 2, 2010 the Greenwich Police Department Serious Collision Reconstruction Team investigated a serious motor vehicle collision in the area of #180 North Street. Shortly after midnight a southbound Land Rover crossed over the double yellow line and collided head on into a northbound Mercedes Benz. The collision caused serious injuries to the operator of the Mercedes, who as of this date is still hospitalized.

As the investigation proceeded, search warrants were obtained for blood alcohol content (BAC) test results on blood taken from the operator of the Range Rover. The results of the tests revealed that his BAC was 0.195, more than twice the legal limit. As a result an arrest warrant was obtained for the driver of the Range Rover and on August 5, 2010 he turned himself.

Arrested by warrant was:
