Jim Himes voted against Congress adjourning for the Easter recess.
Why?
Maybe he thinks the electricity is still off at his Valley Rd. home. [See: Greenwich Time article: “Himes: A congressman without power (at least for 8 days)"]
Maybe Jim Himes is afraid that Tea Partiers might picket his home, or constituents angry over his vote for ObamaCare might give him a piece of their mind when he is back in the district.
Or maybe the reason intimated on the website RealClearPolitics.com on March 25 is correct: “This is one of the most unpopular Congresses in recent history, and Republicans will try to anchor incumbent Democrats to Nancy Pelosi, who is quite unpopular (the latest AP poll had her unfavorables at 51%)…. Democratic members already expect this coming. Witness, for instance, the number of members who are defecting on minor procedural matters. For instance, seventeen brave House Democrats voted with the Republicans on the highly controversial resolution yesterday to adjourn the House of Representatives! That includes 10 Democrats who just voted for ObamaCare but who were courageous enough to defy the Speaker’s demand to send members home for Easter vacation: Chris Carney, Joe Donnelly, Brad Ellsworth, Jim Himes, Suzanne Kosmas, Harry Mitchell, Scott Murphy, Tom Perriello, Mark Schauer, and Joe Sestak. Kidding aside, there is no other reason for such a vote than to lower the percentage of agreement with Speaker Pelosi.”
According to an email from Dan Debicella, one of the Republicans looking to challenge Himes in November, “Jim Himes knows that the people of Fairfield County do not want Nancy Pelosi as their Congressman. He is worried about his re-election because he has voted lock step with her over 95% of the time. So, he’s looking to bring that number down with one of the saddest political tricks in the book. Jim Himes is now parting with Speaker Pelosi on mundane, inconsequential votes whenever he can….Jim Himes votes lock-step with Nancy Pelosi, and now wants to pull a fast one on his constituents. Fortunately, if we’re united for November we have an opportunity to elect a Congressman that cares more about Fairfield County families than insider Washington games.”
So, “Jimmy” tell us why you voted not to adjourn.
