ELECTRIC WINDMARE

- In Riverside a fallen tree is the bench for a group portrait of Nicholas Plants, Thomas Hickman, Marjorie Plants, Aidan Cron, Sebastian Hickman and Nicholas Hickman. More photos coming…

- This tree was cut up by a homeowner and his girlfriend…very neatly stacked…he said the Town came by and asked him to stop cutting the tree because at some point the power may come back on.

- Issy Bonebrake, Will Bonebrake and Steven Randall carrying home split logs. I bought 16 bundles of wood from the A&P last night and went through 10 of them. The previous two night I ‘borrowed’ wood from my Sister. She had power, I didn’t. The wood/fuel resource was necessary to keep warm through the night. I pulled my couch 4 feet from the fireplace and slept there three nights in a row listening to my Red Cross battery operated radio. We are lucky it wasn’t 20 degrees colder, there would have been more deaths. How prepared are we for the next disaster?

- SNAPPED! in Bruce Park

- SNAPPED in Bruce Park near the Croquet Lawn

- SNAPPED onto the bleachers in Bruce Park

- Eyewitness News was on the scene in Bruce Park with mildly flooded streets

- Town crews got to this site early. An Eyewitness News (ABC) Videographer was at the scene. It’s surprising that this tree was cut up at this point since there was another easy exit road nearby. With dozens of trees crossing streets throughout Greenwich, which trees had priority? Are there any tree left on the street now? Did Greenwich have a plan for this type of emergency situation or was it unpredictable? And the ‘crazy’ question is, how many trees was Greenwich short of looting? With about 700 trees down, 20/30 across roadways….at what point do we get desperate enough to steal food, wood and anything else to survive?

- Protected only by a scarf and bronze Brucette survived unscathed in Bruce Park.

- What are the chances? A tree landed on this Greenwich Police vehicle on Old Wagon Road. The threat of deadly wire had trapped this GPD Officer in his vehicle until power was shut down on Old Wagon Road just off Palmer Hill Road. The rumor or news is that the same officer was had a similar incident happen twice in the same night…..what are those chances? This was the scene the day after the incident

- The night before…”the Night of the Big Winds”… high winds and tall trees hung ominously over my ‘ski helmeted head’ as i photographed this dangerous scene…

- An ambulance and GPD vehicle at the scene just before Sunset. Heavy rain and Heavy Heavy wind blew water onto my lens and distorted the color. The rain protecting camera bag I purchased at B&H photo/NYC 2 months ago proved effective for this situation.

- Trapped under the Snapped tree…what are the chances…a Police car under a tree? truely a rare event….and it happened twice that night…this will be a long remember and talked about storm in Greenwich Connecticut. For those who remember and living through the “Ice Storm” in the early 70′s this is equivelant in intensity.

- Why are these signs here? Landspam? (new coined word). Is this illegal? If so, do the perps get fined in some way? Or is it worth it to ‘try’ the law? Billboard are paid for. Are the frequent roadside/traffic light location signage post signs legal like the Political and event signs are? If this is legal…it’s so easy to take advantage of this ‘Public’ space for advertising. Who knows something about this and what do you say?

- In a yard in Sound Beach Extention (or Sound Beach North), just South of Perna Drive, left side…a tree the local residents suggested at the largest locally of it’s kind destroyed the front end of this truck. Notice the blown-out front left tire.

- The truck’s back right tire was above the ground and was ‘spinable’.

- I was driving by Binney Park along Sound Beach Avenue and noticed this fallen tree on the right. Today three children were playing/climbing on it…I thought…”it’s a ‘jungle gym’ that doesn’t have to be paid for”…some of these tree are natural play grounds and the kids love them…I doubt that any of them will be left as ‘natural playstructures’….but let’s wait and see…there are some creative people in Greenwich that might turn misfortune into joy.

- Neighbors on Lincoln Avenue discuss the scenario in front of them at Sound Beach Avenue next to Vista Avenue.

- A closer look at the damaged trees. The fallen pine at the left and the tall bare stump at the right…which…looks like an hand pointing North …like ‘number one’ but the pointer finger is split at top. “The Hand at Vista”? It’s like sculpture is being created with a storm.

- A pointed tree hangs over Lockwood (between Tomac and Sound Beach)…later the street was blocked off.

- This is how the German’s slowed tanks and troops from advancing in WWII apparently… by placing trees across the roadway. This tree slowed and detained vehicles on Shore Road in Old Greenwich near Tower and Ford Lanes.

- Unannounced State Representative Candidate Jonathan Wilcox from Cos Cob speaking with Greenwich’s Superintendant Tree Warden Bruce Spaman on Highview Lane in Old GreenwicH

- Spaman and Wilcox were on the other side of this fallen tree when the image was snapped. About two years ago local residents petitioned to put street level barriers in place to slow or deter traffic…the deterents are called “Speed Humps” on this sign. A new sign might be temporarily created…something like …. “TREE STUMPS AHEAD”

- At the cross streets of Glen Avon and (Riverside) Club Road a tree hangs across the roaD

- The ‘Grand Ole Tree’ is now a speed hump on Highview atop with Issy, Will and Steven

- Steven Randall viewing the underside of a tree from his front yarD

- A wire laying across the westside sidewalk of Sound Beach Avenue next to the Rummage Room created an obstaclE

- The creatively unique Old Greenwich store was open yesterdaY

- With a lower budget than it’s Avenue neighbor stores….the Rummage Room never lacks the window display creativitY

Great photos! I thought that the one with the police car trapped under the tree and wires was especially cool and scary. I remember hearing about that on the police scanner Sat. night and my dad and I were like — did they just say that?
