March 2010 Storm – Comments From Neighbors

What is happening out there? Send me your comments: mbrobben@aol.com Here is a comment from a neighbor to his friend down in Washington DC:

“We got clobbered yesterday by the wind, which came in ceaseless bursts, knocking down trees, wires, and whatever else it could get its swirling hands on.  We were one of the few who didn’t lose power, but most of my children did as did most of our neighbors.  6 Greenwich police officers were trapped in a rescue truck for 6 hours while live electrical wires sat on top of their vehicle.  I know two of them.  One woman was killed by a falling tree.  Trees are down all over town, blocking roads, keeping schools
closed.  A tree fell on the Old Greenwich post office and even that’s closed.  “Neither snow, nor rain….”  I can’t recall if wind is mentioned in their slogan.  There’s debris everywhere, mostly tree limbs.  Last night flares were posted on many of the local roads warning drivers or walkers of downed wires, downed trees, and tree limbs flailing recklessly.   Today electricians and repairmen are arriving from neighboring States, some even from Canada, to help in getting Greenwich up and running again.   We took a lickin’ yesterday, and now have to get life up and running again.”
