Steve and Mike Young’s Birthdays…Sunday, October 11th

This blog is from Steve Young's Mom, Sherry Young: Writer Darren Everson wrote an article for the Wall Street Journal titled "The trouble with Tim Tebow," a left handed quarterback who plays for the Florida Gators. He explained the differences in a left and right handed quarterback and why they run into difficulty when they go to the NFL. In the article he declared that, “The pinnacle of lefty quarterbacks remains Mr. Young…who holds the highest career quarterback rating in NFL history (96.8).” What you must realize is something my husband, Grit, and I have talked about so many times, that it has been a long road from the North Mianus Field to the Hall of Fame. Think about the thousands and thousands of young boys who begin playing football in little league. Then realize how many drop out by junior high, then again a whittling down for high school. Very few of those boys ever make it on a college level, yet think about how many thousands there still are that do play. And keep narrowing down and narrowing down until you get to the NFL. Then, as a southpaw make a name for yourself and of those lefties to have a quote like that about you, "the pinnacle of lefty quarterbacks." Then of all the men who have played professional football to think you could hold the highest quarterback rating and be in the Hall of Fame. Amazing! And he wasn't launched from a high school in Texas or California but Greenwich High School in Greenwich Connecticut. What are the odds?
