BREAKING NEWS: Black Bear Sighting in backcountry Greenwich?

Greenwich, August 15, 2009 — Town Conservation Director, Denise Savageau, gave town personnel a “heads-up” yesterday morning that she had receive a report from a credible source, of three black bears at the corner of 310 Round Hill Road and Porchuk.   At the time of her email she had not connected with person who reported the sighting, whose name she mentioned in the email.

Director Savageau notified the appropriate authorities at the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, as she continued attempts to reach the resident who reported the bears.  She pointed out that all black bear sightings must be reported to the DEP.

But a check, just before this post, of the DEP black bear sightings website did not list any Greenwich sightings.

Director Savageau said she wasn’t sure “if this was three separate sightings or a group of three bears together.” She added that if were “three bears together it would most likely be mother with cubs, as bears to
do not hang together.”

MORE DETAILS AS THEY BECOME AVAILABLE.
