While the money continues to come in from those unable to attend this Sunday’s “10-13″ Fundraiser for beloved former Greenwich Police Officer Antonio Rivera, initial results for the event are in. In excess of $40,000 was raised for the Rivera family. (Those who could not attend still can send a contribution to Silver Shield Association — Rivera Fund, P.O. Box 1123, Greenwich, Conn. 06836. For more information, contact the GPD Silver Shield Association at 869-9519 or at SilverShield@gmail.com.) Special among the numerous donations was upwards of $30 raised by children at local lemonade stand — the kids learned of Officer Rivera’s situation from Community and Police Partnership (CAPP) member Alan Gunzberg. Fado Lane Lemonade stand was run by Sophia Gunzburg, Emily Gunzburg, Allyson Mays, Emily Mays, Kelly Oliva, and Michael Miller.
This blog, the night of the event, reported an estimated 1,500 to 2,000 attending. The following day the local daily reported the crowd size at 300. Silver Shield Association officials have since reported that 2,300 people paid the $10 entrance fee, and that children attended for free. So the crowd was probably in access of 3,000. (Perhaps there was a “typo” in the local paper, and a zero was left off the published number.)
