Boating in Greenwich

qqq

Here, partially submerged a few hundred yards south of Greenwich's Captain's Island are two pieces of wood. Each piece of wood measure about 8 feet long and the width of a telephone pole, but are square. Before I found this marine obstacle announcements on the Marine VHF radio by the United States Coast Guard were being made. A boater called by 'boat radio' that a tree was floating in the water about a mile outside Stamford Harbor. My reason for taking my boat out today was not so much that it was the first sunny day in a long time, but because a close friend said Porpoise was seen in the Sound. The only Porpoise I found was a wood porpoise. The floating wood was no emergency, but could become have become a major problem. Hitting this obstacle is like driving into a Maine Moose at night. Moose are common and so is floating debris, best to clear it off the road. I used two different radios to contact the Coast Guard and they did not respond! Silence does not make sense! Why didn't they answer the call as is their duty? About 5 minutes later a GPD Marine Vehicle was cruising by at about 80 yards...I stood at the aft of my boat and 'double arm' waved to them. When they approached, the GPD Marine Officer said, "Why all the Hysteria?" The Hysteria.

Greenwich Police removed the 'Hysteria' making Long Island Sound safer.

5 minutes later......Chantal exiting Greenwich flying the flag of 'Saint Vincent and the Grenadines'. Greenwich Police floated nearby as Chantal exited here a quarter mile South of Captain's Island..
