BREAKING NEWS: Selectmen ratify Child Protective Ordinance

In a unanimous vote today, the Greenwich Board of Selectmen passed a “Child Protective Ordinance” recommended by the Greenwich Community and Police Partnership (CAPP).  CAPP spent two years working on the project, including research and drafting.

East Sector CAPP chairman, Sam Romeo, spearheaded the efforts for adoption, working with First Selectman Peter Tesei on getting the ordinance ratified, and working with State Representative Fred Camillo to get state legislation into the Hartford hopper.  Indications are that a vote in the state legislature could come as early as Monday.

The proposal, modeled after a Danbury ordinance, would bar convicted sex offenders from certain areas, such as schools. The proposed ordinance will next go before the Representative Town Meeting to be adopted.
