Rep. Camillo Remembers a Local Legend

To the editor,
It was with sadness that I learned of the recent passing of my friend, Bernie Yudain. A family friend for close to 60 years, and a personal friend for about 30, I never tired of Bernie’s recounting of the Greenwich of old, when ‘townies” and characters were on every street corner and in every diner and store front. In particular, his recollections of my distant cousin, Congressman Al Morano, were legendary.
An accomplished  journalist and publicist, he had a way with words that left an indelible impression on all who read his columns and releases. In his later years, his weekly columns were much anticipated and eagerly read.
A man who was well traveled, very cultured and sophisticated, he reserved the warmest spot in his heart for his hometown of 73 years. Greenwich was a special place to him. The many different parts, neighborhoods and peoples brought him much joy. Whether at the Indian Harbor Yacht Club or a Chickahominy Reunion, the quintessential Townie with the pipe was a welcome and frequent presence.
So long, Bernie,  You will be missed by many. I know you will  keep ‘em laughing and busy in the Greenwich section of Heaven.
