The following is a Press Release from the Greenwich Police Department on Unannounced Tobacco Store Inspections.

On November 3, 2009, members of the Greenwich Police Criminal Investigations Division and staff members of the State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS, Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement program, conducted an unannounced compliance inspections of twenty-one (21) business establishments that sell tobacco products.
The inspections were performed in an effort to determine compliance with state laws concerning the prohibition of the sale of cigarettes and/tobacco products to youth under the age of eighteen. Under the direction and supervision of DMHAS investigators, an under age youth, employed by the Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program, entered the business establishments and attempted to purchase tobacco products.
The inspection resulted in two (2) business establishments violating Connecticut General Statute Sec. 53-344(b) Sale of Tobacco to Minors under the age of eighteen. The following individuals were issued an Infractions Summons for the aforementioned charge with a payable fine of two hundred dollars ($200.00).
1. Michael Cafagno, Age 23, DOB-10/20/1986,of 560 Locust Avenue, Port Chester, NY. Mr. Cafagno is an employee of The Tobacconist of Greenwich, 8 Havemeyer Place, Greenwich, CT
2. Linda Chan, Age 54, DOB-06/15/1955,of 403155 Henry Street, New York, NY Ms. Chan is an employee of the Oriental Market, 214 Sound Beach Avenue, Old Greenwich, CT
The following Greenwich businesses were found to be in compliance with the law:

9. Byram Smoke Shop, 111 Mill Street
10. Two Door Restaurant, 176 Hamilton Avenue
11. Bellmore Wine & liquor, 380 West Putnam Avenue
12. Greenwich Cigar Store, 21 Railroad Avenue
13. Sundown Saloon, 403 Greenwich Avenue
14. Mobil, 623 West Putnam Avenue
