65th anniversary of D-Day landings

Although it seems to be ignored by the media here in the U.S., Saturday June 6th is the 65th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy in 1944.

Here’s a moving interview from the BBC with veterans from the D-Day invasion.

Here’s another interview with French residents of St. Mere Eglise, one of the first towns liberated by Allied troops.

I’ve visited some of the invasion beaches and even in the bright sunshine of a summer’s day it was profoundly moving. We owe it to the thousands who died there not to let this day pass without remembering their sacrifice, so critical to defeating the Nazis on the Western front.
