Surprise! ;) Double Standard at NBC

NBC stands to make millions on its Super Bowl® advertising this Sunday. But one ad they are refusing to air is one first broadcast on the Black Entertainment Network in Chicago on Inauguration Day and features President Obama. According to one report, “It has become an Internet hit with over 700,000 views in seven days. The ad was in the top 10 ‘most viewed’ category on YouTube on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20.”

The ad, entitled, “Life: Imagine the Potential,” was rejected as an advocacy advertisement. However, an ad entitled “Veggie Love” from the advocacy group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) would have been permitted to air during the Super Bowl® had PETA reduced its sexual content. The PETA ad is also an advocacy ad.

I find the PETA advertisement particularly demeaning to women, as did my wife and daughters. But you decide. Here is a link to both ads:
