The gentle glow of candles illuminated the Bush-Holley Historic Site for the annual Holiday Open House on Sunday evening, as over four hundred people showed up to enjoy crafts, carols, music and refreshments. Docents dressed up in period costumes gave tours of the circa 1730 home and site of the Cos Cob Art Colony.
It’s a tradition for many local families, according to Debra Mecky, Executive Director of the Historical Society of the Town of Greenwich. “We’ve had people coming tonight who say I came here as a child and now I’m coming with my daughter’s children.”
Brownie Troop 50885 from North Mianus School serenaded visitors with carols, complete with confetti snow during “Let it Snow.” Saxophonist Chris Coulter and friends entertained revelers as they enjoyed delicious hot chocolate and cranberry punch.
It was an especially magical night for 77 year-old Sandy Stracuzzi of North Mianus, who hadn’t been out of his house for months due to battling various medical conditions including cancer. Finally persuaded to venture out for the evening by his loved ones, Mr. Stacuzzi was enjoying the music and soaking up the atmosphere. “I’m a people person,” he said. “It’s great to be out and see all these people. It feels like everyone is celebrating with me.”
